Spring has finally come to our cold Wisconsin, and the flowers are responding in kind. The daffodils are always up first, raising their yellow heads to greet the sun. After the earliest of daffodils, the initial wave of tulips start their show. While the more exotic daffodils are still showing their finery, these apricot tulips decide to enter the fray. As backlight flowers often do, their colors changed from apricot to bright yellow and deep orange with the intense light of the sun.

I chose to paint these flowers with a more abstract background to contrast with the painterly way the flowers were constructed. Choosing colors that would complement the hues of the flowers, and placing these colors in an abstract manner was the new thing that I tried with this painting.
