People out East are rebuilding their lives after the great storm, Sandy.  I still feel like I shouldn’t be talking about creating art. The news shows that some people have lost their lives, some people are homeless due to flooding or fire and all have to rebuild. I feel selfish to be writing about creating art. They have lost everything, and I am thinking about creating something new.

Perhaps I should be thinking about this tragedy from the perspective that art can give solace. Art has the ability to transport the viewer to another place and time. Abstract or concrete, impressionism or realism, all styles of art can soothe the soul. Whether it’s the artists there who will go on to replace the works that are now gone or the collectors who will have to create new collections, they have both lost so much. Perhaps they can try to find the bright side of a new adventure in creating, whether in artwork or in collections, while they grieve for what they lost. One thing is for certain, their lives will not be untouched.
